How To Cut Your Grocery Bill In Half Each Time You Shop

Food prices and general living costs may be rising while salaries are typically staying the same, so you might be feeling the impact from this and be looking for creative ways to save money on groceries each week or month.

If so, we’ve shared some of our favorite tips in this post for you.

Plan Your Meals To Save Money On Groceries:

Meal planning is great on so many levels. It saves you time when cooking and cleaning up, it prevents waste, and it will save you a lot of money each month because you’re only buying exactly what you need.

If you’re new to meal planning, there are lots of resources out there to help you get started, but as with most things, it’s best to just keep it simple and you’ll learn what works for you as you go.

Each week before you go shopping, get into the habit of making a list of all the things you have in the house that need to be used so you’re not buying things you already have.

From there, you can make a list of all the things you do need, and then start making a list of meal ideas.

This way, when you go shopping you’re not buying more than you need and everything gets used according to the recipe it’s going in, so you’ll instantly see a reduction in your bill.

Prep & Freeze Your Meals:

If you’re like most people, you’re spending more money than necessary on food.

Whether through not having a plan when you visit the supermarket. Or even forgetting about things in your fridge that you’ve bought, the amount soon stacks up.

A good way to combat this and also save yourself time cooking is prepping your meals ahead of time.

You can then freeze them or store them in meal prep containers for when you plan on using them.

Once you get into the habit of doing this, you’ll notice a difference in your grocery bill each month.

Use Coupons To Save Money:

You’ve likely seen shows like Extreme Couponing. These feature people who buy hundreds of dollars worth of groceries for next to nothing.

Obviously, unless you’re able to dedicate 40 hours per week to collecting coupons, you’re unlikely to have the same results.

This doesn’t mean you can’t save significant amounts of money on your groceries by taking advantage of coupons.

Whether it’s multi-buy offers or money off, you can find coupons on items in store through magazines, newspapers and online which can really help you cut down on the cost of your grocery bills.

Get A Store Loyalty Card:

Store loyalty cards work similarly to coupons by rewarding you for shopping. But instead of giving you money off upfront, they pay you back later with points. These can be used against purchases in store later.

Many store loyalty cards also send vouchers to their customers to allow for extra savings. You can use the points against other products and services such as airline and hotel bookings or mobile phone plans.

As you can see, there are various ways to cut a good chunk of change off your grocery bill. Depending on how much effort you want to dedicate to planning, you can easily cut this in half.
