5 DIY Christmas Decorations: Christmas on a Budget
Even though its barely November, we already know this is likely to be a Christmas unlike no other. Who knows if we will be able to socialise with friends and family? Work Christmas parties look unlikely; that is if you are lucky enough to have clawed onto your job, throughout what is no doubt one of the most turbulent years in the history of the world, ever! Presents and Turkeys, and Christmas decorations are fairly low on the list of priorities; you all deserve a self congratulatory pat on the back just for making it this far!
Despite not being able to predict the future, one thing we can always be certain of is this: Christmas is Magical. Stop your cynicism, find your inner child and drag them out, kicking and screaming if need be. This year has been odd, and we want to finish it with some normality dammit – what’s more normal than Christmas!?
But with funds low, and Christmas decorations not exactly cheap, we have come up with 5 finance friendly Crimbo decorations that are going to bring the magic back to your house!

Wreaths
Making a home-made wreath is part and parcel for Christmas decorations, and really fun! You can buy either a wire wreath frame or a foam ring, and get picking! Whether you decide to go down the more traditional route of holly, fir tree and berries, or a more modern route of tinsel, baubles, lights and ratten wood, you can really bring back the Christmas magic!
Wooden Candle Holders
Wood is so versatile, it’s easy to create rustic Christmas decorations with minimal effort that will look stunning once finished! Try taking a small log of wood, cutting it in half lengthways so it will sit on a flat surface without rolling. Using a HSS hole saw drill bit, drill some holes into the top of the log, around half an inch deep and the size of a tea light candle. Sand the bottom and sides of the log, and decide whether to sand the top of the log or leave the bark on, and pop tea lights in!
Wine Glass Decorations
Grab an old wine glass or three, and stick to one side. Grab some small baubles, Christmas ornaments, led lights, berries and holly, or glitter. Pick one, pop them inside the wine glass, add a bow to the stem and pop on mantlepieces, windowsills or tables to create some Christmassy cheer! Don’t forget to check out Pinterest for some ideas!
Christmas Eve Box
Undoubtedly my favourite modern Crimbo item, this is a relatively new item that has been gaining popularity with adults as well as kiddies. Find or make a box, decorate however you wish – and fill with small bits and bobs for Xmas Eve. I usually have a new pair of PJs, hot chocolate, some snacky bits, a Christmassy DVD, and some slipper socks, and everyone has their own box. The perfect pre Christmas gift!
Table Centre Pieces
These can be as easy of complicated as you like, but for a quick and easy one, grab a glass bowl or vase, and fill with baubles and battery powered wire LED lights. Or get more creative with greenery, or if you’re really artsy you could make your own mini Christmas Scene!
Just remember, Christmas isn’t about how much you spend, but spending it making memories!
