Saving for Your Future, Saying I Do, & The Science Behind The Diamond

Being proposed to, or indeed proposing yourself, and seeing that diamond, is a monumental life event. Getting engaged is one of those lifetime moments that you will always remember, no matter how many times it happens.

There are three important parts to the proposal.

  • Did they get down on one knee?
  • Did they/ you cry?
  • The ring!

The ring is a whole thing in itself. Silver or gold, white gold or platinum? Halo or shoulders? 1 carat, or 2? Vintage, modern or bespoke? Picked out before the proposal, or chosen together after?

Depending on where you go for your engagement ring (I strongly recommend 77 Diamonds!), you have a multitude of choices, suitable for every style, and budget. Even down to the actual diamond.

Lab VS Natural

Aside from the fact you can pick pretty much any gem, in any shape, size and colour, you also have a choice on the type of diamond you buy: Natural diamonds, or lab diamonds.

Natural Diamonds

Natural diamonds are just that – naturally made, mined from diamond mines across the globe.

Hold Their Price

With natural diamonds becoming harder and harder to mine, this causes a supply and demand issue – cost. Although the diamond market is just like any other – constantly fluctuating, now more than ever they are holding their price more. So whether you are buying one for love, or investment – having a diamond or two to your name is never a bad thing!

Real Diamond

The most important thing – it is a real diamond. This completely depends on personal taste, as lab grown diamonds actually have the same structure as natural diamonds, so unless you go screaming it from the rooftops no one will actually know – but you will. And your real diamond will be real. And if you ever hand it down within the family, make sure the certificate goes with it!

Boosts & Supports Local Economies

When mined ethically, your purchase will support whole families and societies, whose income depends on these diamonds selling.

Lab Diamonds

Lab diamonds are manmade diamonds. Despite not being a natural diamond, they have the same genetic structure and you are unable to see the difference between natural and lab grown with the naked eye.

Clear Origin

One main but obvious point with lab grown diamonds, is their origin. With a mined diamond, despite the certificates that should accompany every natural diamond – lets be real, unless you mined it, you really can’t guarantee the origin – and we have all heard of blood diamonds. When grown in a lab, you could probably get the location down to a what3words location!

Cheaper

The second major benefit of lab grown diamonds is the price. Lab grown diamonds are significantly cheaper than natural diamonds, meaning that you get a lot more bang for your buck. By extension, this also means you get a bigger range of rings to pick from, in style and size, as your money will stretch further with a lab diamond.

New & Exciting

As we mentioned previously, these days lab grown diamonds are identical to their natural counterparts – and unless you are an expert, you would never know the difference. This means you can save more money towards your future wedding, and still get the ring of your dreams!
