Four Ways To Be Eco Friendly, Save Money, & Save The Planet!
Being green is good for the planet – but until relatively recently, hasn’t always been seen as a priority. Think back a generation or two – chances are your grandparents, or maybe even your parents, are not too clued up on the benefits of eco friendly living.
If you fancy doing your bit for the planet and making Greta Thunberg proud, check out five of these relatively small steps to increase your eco living status, and decrease your bills!
Energy Efficient Lightbulbs – & Turning Off
Most lightbulbs now are energy efficient lightbulbs, the main one being LED. LED lights are advertised as long lasting, which means they will need to be replaced less often. Changing the lightbulbs all around your home to energy efficient bulbs will reduce your monthly bills, and also could make your bulbs last even longer.
Another thing to help cut your bulb bills is to turn them off! Getting into the habit of turning lights off when you leave the room is not only good practise, but will help save your pennies too!
Heating & Cooling – Foil Radiators, Curtains & Blinds
We have briefly covered how to enhance the heat in your home when it comes to radiators; radiator reflector panels behind the radiator to bounce back heat back into the room. But with weather getting warmer, we also need to know tips and tricks for keeping heat out!
Blinds and curtains, whether thermal lined or not, can help keep heat in, as well as out. For the really hot days, try and keep your windows covered, by shutting curtains and blinds, to help keep the heat out. Also try and keep the windows closed until the evenings if at all possible, to keep the hot air out of your home.
Eco Shop – Online & Local
Eco shopping is gaining traction and popularity, with people wanting to do their bit for the planet. The Eco Shop offer environmentally friendly everyday essentials, in a range of categories, from kitchen accessories to cleaning products. The Good Club also offers groceries, with over 3,000 eco friendly products, zero waste food in returnable pots, and free monthly delivery and packaging collection.
Depending on where you live, you may also have a local eco friendly shop. Shops like these are popping up all over; all you need is your own tubs, tins and jars and off you go! You will often find the prices are cheaper too, as not only do the stores buy in bulk – which we all know is the best way to buy – but also, with companies saving money on their packaging, the product costs less!
Walk/ Bike Instead of Driving
We have covered this fairly recently in a few of our articles – but what is greener than this?! Not only is walking or biking super healthy for you, but it is also great for the planet! After all, we know how much pollution is created by vehicles; especially in built up areas such as cities! Plus – walking is free!
