Promotional Packaging, Complaining & Compliments

I don’t care who you are, where you shop, or what you eat. I guarantee you that at least once in your life, you have eaten something with a promotional offer attached to the packaging. Think crisps, chocolates, drinks.

Promotional Packaging

Most of us will chuck the packaging away, but if you keep hold of them, you could be eligible for some nice little freebies or discounts on other items.

Offers can include free products from the range you’ve already brought, gadgets, chances to win tickets to events, holidays, or even cars and cash prizes! Keep an eye out when major life events are going on – think Wimbledon or the World Cup – as they are always a good excuse to push free offers on consumers.

Walkers have recently produced two KFC inspired crisp flavours; Kentucky Fried Chicken and KFC Zinger.

Along with some of the packets (you will know if yours is a promotional pack – its printed in the top corner of the packaging!), they are offering a Buy One Get One Free meal deal at qualifying KFC stores.

All you have to do is take your packet with you on your trip to your local KFC, and let them know at the point of ordering you have a promotional pack, and you’ll get your second meal for free!

Complaints & Compliments

Another way of getting free products with companies is by sharing your thoughts! And no, I don’t just mean by complaining.

If you have a genuine issue with your product, then reach out to the company – politely – and your issue. You can reach most companies via a freephone number printed on their packaging, an email, a letter if you’re old school, or the most popular method – their socials.

Remember, being polite is often the best way of getting a result from the company – manners don’t cost a penny, and people get their backs up much quicker if you call them all the names under the sun!

A common resolution for these types of issues is for the company to send you a replacement of their product, or money off for future purchases.

Some social media complaints have even gone viral – check this out! #bacongate

And its not just complaints that get you compensation – a well worded note of gratitude can also work well in your favour! People are more likely to complain, than to compliment; so when a compliment comes knocking, it is usually gratefully received.

Companies love customer feedback, good and bad – so if you think they have done something well, tell them! Chances are you will make someone’s day; either because they helped to make/ design said product, or they will just be grateful that someone isn’t yelling at them!

You may even be offered a chance to be involved in future market research for the company – especially if you give constructive critiques. This could also involve future chances for some great freebies, so it’s always worth signing up for if you get the chance!
