Simple Life Hacks & Saving Money For Good – Part Two
As we adapt to this new way of life, cautiously stepping out of our safety bubbles and dipping our toes in the proverbial water – once known as the big wide world – we are learning to mix old with new. Old ways of life and old habits, but with new ideas, and ways of getting there. And of course, penny pinching, without going without!
Taxis vs Biking
Once a way of life, taxis beat public transport hands down. No waiting at 7 different stops before getting to yours, no cramming yourself into small spaces with strangers, and no waiting for 20 minutes, before having 3 buses or trains turn up at once! However, taxis are also expensive and occasionally unreliable. Have you ever tried hailing a cab down in the rain, or getting a taxi when you are in the middle of nowhere?! Yeah, good luck with that.
As we mentioned before, biking is free, good for your health, and just about the greenest mode of transport you can find. Although unrealistic for a long journey or a ride to an evening out (ever tried cycling whilst intoxicated? Trust me, just don’t.), it is a great habit to get into for your short journeys. Not just good for your physical and mental health, but your finances too!
Nights Out vs Nights In
Nights out have become a thing of the past. Having said that, so have nights in, if we are talking for more than one household! With even the tamest nights out, it is not uncommon to come home with considerably less money than you left the house with. By the time you factor in food, drinks, transport, entry fees and entertainment, it is easy to burn through your cash quicker than you can place it back in your pocket.
Nights in by comparison are considerably cheaper, and if you like playing hostess with the mostess, you could really come into your own. With so many options, from themed nights, fancy dress, cook offs, bbqs and buffets, movie nights, game nights – the list is endless. Whether you have enough space for a garden bar, or are limited to the confines of your house; you can still make the most of your space, and evening. Make it a BYOB evening, or split the nights between a group of you, so households take turns in hosting – not only will you save money, but you’ll also get the chance to make plenty of great memories too!
One Big One vs Lots of Little Ones
We’re talking holidays of course!! No longer a censored word, we can once again dare to dream of waiters, pools, and far away breaks from every day life. Whether you prefer a staycation, or need to hop on a plane to feel relaxed, now is a great time to look. With more deals than ever, with holiday companies far and wide trying to convince you that you need to book with them, shop around to find your ideal breaks. Whether you want to book one huge blow out holiday, or have several mini breaks over the year, 2021 is definitely the year to get away! Now for the hard part – deciding who to take with you!
Biking is the easiest way to get around and exercise at the same time. And you don’t need a lot of money too get a nice bike. I found a great used mountain bike on offer up for less than$100.00.
