Socialising at Last – Easter Picnic Ideas On A Budget!
With Easter around the corner, and social gatherings of up to 6 (do I still know 5 other people?!) finally allowed outside, we definitely think this is cause to celebrate! Whether you’re planning an afternoon in your garden, or in your local park, grab your five friends (not physically, remember the 2 metre rule still applies!), or two other households, and get your Easter Picnic on!
Making your party food (instead of buying it) will save a small fortune, and allows you to create food suitable for keeping your social distancing as much as possible!
Finger Food
Depending on where you’re hosting your Easter Picnic, will depend on what sort of food you decide to make. If you decide to opt for the local park, cold finger food is where it’s at! Instead of boring sandwiches, why not try Pinwheels? Visually appealing, and easy to make with almost any filling, they will definitely bring some glamour to your picnic! If you decide for a garden gathering, why not make Pinwheel Pizzas? Hot from the oven, and still equally as fun and tasty!
Hot Food
If you’ve opted for your garden (great choice), then chances are you’ll want a hot meal for your crew. Throw some jacket potatoes in the oven, and get a spag bol or chilli on the stove in the morning, and you have an easy meal prepared for a small crowd. A fulfilling, healthy meal with no last minute prep.
Egg Hunts
Mainly for the kids (although big kids are more than welcome to join in!), instead of one big Easter Egg, why not buy a few smaller eggs? Currently small Easter Eggs are only 75p on Tesco Clubcard prices; grab a few and stash around the garden/ park, and you could even write some clues to help find them. Activities on a budget, check!
Strawberries & Fizz
For the grown-ups of the group, nothing says picnic in the park like strawberries and Champers (or Shloer for the drivers and non-drinkers of the group). Check your local supermarket or farm shops for some strawberries, and grab some Prosecco (almost as nice and more than half the price of Champers!), and get your glam on. Why not step it up and grab some scones, clotted cream and jam and create your own Afternoon Tea, and really make it special?
Easter Egg Nests
Easter egg nests are an absolutely essential Easter food, and fun to make no matter your age! A little can go a long way, so they are definitely cost effective too! Grab a box of cornflakes or rice crispies, a bar (or 2!) of cheap chocolate, some mini eggs and some cupcake cases. You know the rest… Get baking!
Decorations
No matter where you are, don’t forget this is a celebration! Help keep things sanitary by using paper plates and napkins, and even paper cups (classy, we know!). This not only keeps the risk of infection down, but gives you a chance to show off your Easter themed picnic. You could also grab some bunting (if you grab some universal ones like these, you can use them again and again so you will get your moneys worth out of them in the long run!) and really have a party picnic!
