How to Make the Most of Your Home

Our homes are our sanctuaries, our safe spaces, our castles. But what happens when you outgrow your castle? Whether you have increased the size of your family, brought more items, or have simply run out of room; At some point, chances are you will need a bigger home.

Moving home isn’t always the answer. Selling your home is stressful, packing is exasperating, and the whole procedure is expensive. But what if there was a way to gain that extra space, without having to go through the demanding process of moving?

Extensions

Depending on the size of the property you have, getting a home extension may be the way forward. Extensions are a way of getting that extra room, without having to pack up your belongings and memorise a new address.

There are many ways you can approach this. Whether you go for a side extension or back extension, to make your rooms bigger or to add new rooms altogether – this could be the answer to your house problems! Depending on how much room you have to the side or back of your home, and the layout of your house, these can add new rooms, or make existing rooms much larger.

Your options are endless. Why not turn that dream kitchen diner into a reality? Or why not create a second bathroom, utility room, and office? And if bedrooms are an issue, why not look into a two-storey extension?

There is a lot to consider; from budgets, planning permissions, architects and builders. Most builders will have a rough idea of what is and isn’t allowed, how much you can do before you require planning permission, and of course a rough idea of timescales and costs. If you’re thinking of going ahead it is always worth consulting your chosen builder to give you a starting point.

Conversions

Need more space but don’t have the option of extending out? Then why not look in, and consider a loft, garage or garden room conversion? Your loft may give you an extra bedroom or two. You could even have a fancy master bedroom, complete with ensuite and dressing room.

Your garage could turn into your office, dining room, or kids playroom. And If you have space in your garden, you can get as creative as you like! From a simple log cabin, to an extravagant garden room to get all the extra space and style you need; from a music studio, to a workshop, the possibilities are endless.

For projects that require planning permission, it is always worth having a nosy down your road to see who else has extended, or converted. Although each case depends on a multitude of factors, they are much more likely to grant planning permission if it has already been done.

So if you want the extra space, but not the hassle that comes with putting your life into boxes, consider using the space you already have. Extended or converted your home recently?
