How to Save Money, Save Lives and Be a Great Person
It doesn’t matter if you’re young, old, or somewhere in the middle. It doesn’t even matter if you’re single, coupled, or living in a multi generation family.
If you are a cat or dog person, you will know that home isn’t quite home without your four-legged friends greeting you at the door, whining when they want their food, and generally tripping you up and creating a whirlwind of toys and destruction wherever you go.
It does depend on your situation, as to what animal you have. Cats are generally more self sufficient than dogs. Working 8 hour shifts 5 days a week is necessary for a lot of people; but in this type of environment, a cat would typically be better suited to you than a dog, unless you can organise some type of dog sitter. Dogs are more like young children in the fact they constant attention, supervision and generally just keeping alive, healthy and happy.
But if you feel the timing is right for you and your family, and you have decided a four-legged furball is the next step to take – why not look into a rescue pet?
Be a Great Person
The sad truth is animals are abandoned all over the world. People mistreat them, abuse and neglect them. Unfortunately so many end up in shelters through no fault of their own. Once they have stopped being cute little puppies, when they bark or mess inside, because someone has ‘developed’ and allergy, or no longer has time for them… The list goes on.
Pets Are A HUGE Commitment
This point is the most important and vital part, and should really go without saying. They need walking, watering and feeding. They need a safe space, vaccinating, exercising, mental stimulation, and love. But then you knew that already, didn’t you!

Benefits of Rescue Pets
With many people wanting to add a companion to their household, why not look into one of the hundreds of shelters and rescue centres? There are several beneficial reasons to adopting a rescue, rather than from a breeder.
- It makes you a good person, period. Just to clarify, buying from a breeder does not make you a bad person. At all. Ever. But rescues need a loving home, stability and routine; if you are able and willing to offer it, you are a superly duperly good human being. Brownie points for you; you’re amazing!
- 99 times out of 100, you will pay a lot less for your dog than you would from a breeder. No, chances are you won’t know the history of the dog, and its very unlikely to be a pedigree. But their love will be 100% as real as any other dogs, as will their devotion.
- You are supporting a good cause and saving lives – many rescues are charities, who serve purely to get the animals out of danger and into a save space. By supporting these rescues, they are able to continue, saving hundreds more lives in the process.
- You can still choose the right dog for you! With all the rescues combined, you can guarantee to find the dog for you. Search by age, sex, breed, size, temperament. Many puppies are born from street dogs; which means if you are looking for a puppy, you can still get one. Equally, if you’d prefer an older dog, there are plenty of those too – there really will be a dog for everyone.
Getting a new family member is not a decision to make lightly, as they are a lifelong commitment. But once you are in the position to do so, consider looking at a rescue pet – to save money, save a life, and be a great person!
