Decorate Your Home For Less – Budget-Friendly Decor Cheats
We all have that one friend who’s house looks like a show home. Everything just so, beautifully coordinated with some creative and tasteful features which set the room off perfectly. Most of us could probably benefit from a few improvements in our home decor; features which would bring the room to life, be a talking point for visitors and which would take only a little imagination and effort to create. Without breaking the bank, here are some ideas on how to decorate your home for less. Projects which don’t require the skills of Kirstie Allsopp and will give new life to your living areas.
Use What You Have
Most of us have a generic plant pot or vase lying around which could benefit from a little makeover. Using some jute rope and a glue gun or some porcelain paint, these items can be transformed from serviceable to stand-out spectacular. Plain mirrors can be metamorphosed into quirky unique features using a bit of imagination. Adding stick on mosaic tiles, twine or even plastic foliage or flowers can work wonders. Want to revive an old chest of drawers or side table? Use stencils, try a new coat of paint or add some jazzy handles to create a unique modern piece of furniture.
Hide The Clutter
Somewhere in your house is a clutter corner; a few shelves which gather the anonymous, random objects we have no idea where to put (or why we have them!). A wonderful way of hiding this medley of misfits is to create a fabric table skirt. Choose a fabric that both ties in with your colour scheme and adds a bit of glamour. You can rustle up a beautiful table skirt that you can drape over the offending shelves. This fabulous curtain will hide your odds and ends and your guests will compliment you on your style and flair!
Get Creative With Fabric
Whilst you’re all enthusiastic with fabric, why not try your hand at making your own curtains and cushions? It isn’t as taxing as it sounds, but if you really can’t face bringing the sewing machine down from the loft and figuring out how to work it, there is a fantastic invention called double sided fabric tape. You don’t even have to consider donning the thimble and deciding on the right colour cotton as you simply peel and stick. You can generate wonderful soft furnishings without even touching a needle!
Add Some Glamour
Panelling belongs in stately homes surely? Not any more! With some mdf, adhesive and paint, you can generate a wonderfully extravagant look with minimal effort. It can transform a room from modern to palatial in a day and will be the envy of your friends. Add to this a banister made out of rope in the hall (just drill in the brackets and remember to fray the ends of the rope for a rustic look) and you’ll be a contender for the Ideal Home magazine!
Whatever your choice of project, you’ll be saving money and producing unique personal items which will add a modern, individual touch to your home.
