Five Homely Meals Perfect for Bulk Cooking

With winter well on the way, shops back on rations, and always loving a good bargain, bulk meal prep is definitely a good habit to get into. Whether you’re trying to save money, time, or both, here are five great meals to try out!

Spaghetti Bolognese

Spag bol is one of my favourite go to comfort foods, and so easy to make from scratch. No matter your taste, you can customise it by chucking in pretty much anything! Sausage, bacon, mushroom, peppers, courgettes, wine, and even raisins (Yes, I’ve tried it – sounds grim, but tastes good!).

Start with your basics – mince, onions and tinned tomatoes – add your sauces and spices; chuck in your chosen ingredients and let simmer!

Diet Coke Chicken

A Pinch of Nom classic, this meal takes a while to prep for but tastes amazing! It’s also super filling, and pretty healthy, making it a great meal to have on standby!

I’m fairly fussy when it comes to veg, so I have improvised and use red peppers, baby corn and broccoli instead of what the recipe suggests, but the beauty of this meal is that you can change the veg to suit your taste, and it will still be just as filling and healthy!

Lemon & Garlic Chicken Goujons

Another great recipe from Pinch of Nom (I’m beginning to notice a pattern here!). These are the ‘grown-up’ equivalent of chicken nuggets; but yummier and healthier! Easy to make, easy to cook, easy to freeze – and goes with pretty much anything – these are a must have for any household.

Beef Stew

You can’t have a ‘Best Winter Meal’ list without having stew; in fact, I’m pretty sure there is a law somewhere that states it must be included on such lists.

If you have a cooking mum or dad, and your childhood home kitchen always smelt great, chances are you will have (or already had) a lovely family recipe handed to you on how to make the perfect stew, with fluffy dumplings and a great tasty sauce. For those of us without an exciting secret family recipe; we have the internet, which literally holds hundreds of other people’s recipes! Personally, I cheat and use the Colemans Steak and Ale sachets, and then use Atora Beef Suet for my dumplings; but it is down to personal preference – find a recipe you like, and make loads of it!

Broccoli and Stilton Soup

Although I am not a huge soup fan, this particular soup is an exception and I could happily eat (do you eat soup, or drink it?!) it daily. It’s fairly easy to make even without a soup machine, great for freezing, and a great all-round comfort food, as well as being an impressive starter if you decide to throw a dinner party!

All these meals are great for making in bulk, just buy 2/3/4/ however-many times the ingredients that you would normally buy, and chuck in all together. Grab some freezer bags or meal prep containers (I love these), and voila – quick healthy home made meals on weeknights, even when you can’t be bothered to cook!
