How To Set Up Your Home Office On A Budget
There is no arguing that 2020 has been the oddest year yet. And with things still very uncertain in the job department, we thought we’d join the party – albeit a little late, for some hints and tips on how to set up your very own home office, on a budget.
Picking Your Perfect Place
To work from home, ideally you want a quiet space to conduct your work from. This would be great if you have a dedicated office, or spare room, to work from. But if you don’t, there’s no reason you can’t get creative. If you have a large hallway, an outbuilding you can commandeer, or even a large cupboard you can covert, then now is your chance to get imaginative! Check out sites such as Pinterest, or search Facebook groups you can join to get inspired. There are some great ideas out there on how to convert even the smallest of spaces into your own office or sanctuary.

Desks, Laptops & Computers
Once you have your space sorted, you can start kitting it out to be the space you need! First up, a desk. The best place I have found bargain desks with a great selection, is eBay! With the exclusion of preowned (of which there is usually also a great selection), they have a great choice of sizes, colours, styles and budgets. Of course, you could always get creative, by either making your own or even using something like kitchen worktop to fit into the space you have available.
Once you have your desk, chances are you’ll need some sort of laptop or computer. Good job we covered this Friday!
Accessories
You have your perfect location, desk and computer. Now its time to think about your extras, such as lighting, chairs and storage.
For lamps, check out places like Argos, Wilko, Ikea, Amazon and eBay, for a great selection on keeping your space illuminated, and chairs for your office.
You may also benefit from items such as shelves, bookcases, or some sort of storage unit. Aside from places like eBay, Ikea also have great options when it comes to this, and you can either order online, or make a day of it. Check out some Ikea hacks to find some great uses for their products!
Finally, places like Staples, Ryman, WHSmith and even Tesco can get you kitted out for your pens, paper, glue, glitter and anything else stationary wise. Depending on your use, make sure you have plenty of pens/ pencils/ sharpeners, as we know how easily they can disappear/ break!
Add a paperweight, a speaker (a must for me – I cannot work without some form of music; normally Absolute Radio!), some post it notes, and a cork board if you have the space to stick one up, and voila! You have your own, perfectly prepared home office, done to your specification!
