Five Ways to Have A Budget Staycation Break in the UK This Summer

Can you smell that? That’s right, it smells like freedom! The shackles are coming off, and those feet are beginning to itch – we all want a break!

Travelling is a passion for so many, but has been restricted over the last year. Well, restricted is a slight understatement. Completely and utterly banned would be more apt. But no more! We can now leave our houses without threat of fines, prison, or social exclusion. In fact; it is now being encouraged.

But travelling abroad is still fairly uncertain, despite the promising adverts on TV and the hopeful, yet cautious comments from Downing Street.

So what are the best ways to grab a break on a budget? Check out these places to see if you can find something to suit your needs!

Red Letter Days & Buyagift Vouchers

Many voucher companies, such as Red Letter Days or Smart Box by Buyagift offer overnight stays, from glamping, to castles, to city or seaside breaks. You can choose from 1 night or more, room only or dinner, bed and breakfast. What you may also not realise is that they can often be cheaper than going direct to the hotel you wish to stay at. You can also save further money by finding discount codes before you buy the voucher, and gaining another percentage off the voucher price, saving you even more money.

Wowcher & Groupon

Similar to above, sites such as Wowcher and Groupon offer discount holidays. These can range from your local Best Western, to a 5-day city break in New York. Always make sure you read the small print before you purchase, but generally if you keep your eyes open you can find yourself a pretty good deal on this site.

Holiday Home Listings

Another way to find yourself a cheap holiday is to keep an eye on Facebook! Whether you are on local pages, or pages local to where you’d like to go; you may find that last minute holiday let cancellations are listed on these pages. Failing that, it never hurts to ask around and see if anyone has anywhere available – you never know, a friend of a friend may have a holiday flat in Brighton with your name all over it!

Camping

It is back to basics – there is no arguing about that. But if you can muster up your sense of adventure, camping is always the cheapest option when it comes to holidays. Plus, so many campsites are in picturesque locations, and you can’t beat sitting around a camp fire with loved ones, with good food, a nice drink and overlooking a gorgeous view!

Staying With Friends or Family

This one does depend on whether you have friends and family scattered about. Especially due to lockdown, you could use this as a great excuse to catch up with loved ones that you may not have seen in well over a year, as well as getting out of town and exploring somewhere new! Just remember, if someone graciously invites you into their home, always bring a gift, offer to cook or buy a meal, offer to return the favour, and just be a respectful guest; or you may just find you don’t get invited back!
