How To Have A Spooktastic Halloween On A Budget!

It’s that dodgy time of the year where Summer seems a lifetime ago, yet Christmas seems years away. Outside is windy and wet, and the nights are slowly but surely creeping in.

We may have no more bank holidays to look forward to until Christmas, but fear not; it doesn’t mean we can’t find other events to enjoy.

Halloween, Bonfire night, Christmas festivities.

Although Halloween isn’t as widely celebrated in the UK as it is over the pond, there are still plenty of ways in which we take part in the merriment.

Whether or not you have little ones, you can still get into the spirit of October 31st. With less than four weeks to go, start your planning now for the perfect Halloween!

Trick or Treating

Getting dressed up in ghoulish costumes and going door to door is not a new concept. In fact, the tradition of trick-or-treating started way back in the 16th century.

Homeowners usually show they are participating in the festivities by placing some form of decoration outside their homes.

And the best bit? Going all out to celebrate doesn’t have to cost a fortune!

Fancy Dress

When it comes to choosing your costume, you have extreme creative freedom – almost anything goes!

You can opt to go for your typical skeleton, ghost, witch or wizard; using items you already have from your wardrobe. You’d be amazed at how effective some black clothing and face paint can be; which is perfect for keeping a low budget.

If you want to be unique, check out these ideas for inspiration. If you have family and friends, children, partners, or pets, you can get even more creative – the sky really is the limit!

Carving Pumpkins

With pumpkins available from supermarkets from less than £1, getting into the spirit doesn’t have to be expensive!

Grab your pumpkin(s), and either let your artistic capabilities flow, or show off your carving skills by following one of these templates. Pop your tea light in and pick where you want to show off your designs!

Pumpkin Themed Foods

With pumpkin being the main ingredient in October, there are so many foods and beverages you can make to really get you in the spirit. With pumpkin pie, pumpkin spiced lattes (thanks Starbucks!), pumpkin muffins, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin soups… There really isn’t much you can’t make, either with pumpkin as an ingredient, or shaped to look like pumpkins.

Decorations

Halloween decorations can be as low key, or as fancy as you’d like. From witches hats, to brooms, to using tulle and old sheets to create ghosts and witches, brooms, and spray painting washing baskets black to create makeshift prisons, you can recreate almost any scene. You could even do something as simple as placing an old pair of boots and gloves half dug into the ground, to make it look as though people are being buried alive!

Themed Parties

Everyone loves a good fancy dress party. If you don’t fancy cooking your own food, then try this… Make sure everyone who comes to the party follows the following three steps: Come in fancy dress, BYOB, and a plate of something spooky. All that’s left for you to do is to create the perfect soundtrack, and make sure everyone takes plenty of pictures!
