Save Money On High Ticket Items You Can Revitalise

You should know by now that in order to save money on high ticket items, sometimes you have to be patient.

Which sucks.

Patiently waiting isn’t exactly something I excel at. In fact, I’m probably one of the most impatient people I know!

However, when it comes to high ticket items, I can be persuaded.

I’ve already gone over the benefits of market sites such as Facebook Marketplace and eBay. However, there are ways in which you can utilise them to get even more bang for your buck.

Carpets

Carpets are surprisingly expensive. Add in some complications such as a shortage of lorry drivers, and I can tell you now it won’t be long before stock is interrupted. To manoeuvre carpets, they have to be specialist carpet lorries. With covid still lurking in the background, staff numbers are still unpredictable; meaning orders will be filled to the best time frame they can manage.

If you can wait, it may be worth looking around for either offcuts, or second-hand carpet. Both will be cheaper. When it comes to offcuts, you need to be patient (there’s that awful word again!). Chances are you will be able to find what you’re after.

If you decide to go down the second-hand route – don’t despair. Always check the condition of the carpet before you buy. Remember, you can always hire a carpet cleaner to spruce it up, as well as getting rid of previous muck and grime, making it more hygienic.

Sofas

Sofas are another high ticket household item. Given the fact that they wear and tear fairly quickly, you could be forgiven for begrudgingly paying four figures for a sofa and armchair or two.

If you don’t fancy budget sofas from the likes of SCS, Argos or Ikea, you could always keep an eye on DFS and Sofology clearance and ex display items. These are ever so slightly worn from the showrooms, but still come with guarantees and are a lot cheaper than the same item ‘new’.

Upholstery cleaners can help remove any small stains, so you can have it looking as good as new – meaning you can have the sofa you actually want, rather than the sofa you can afford.

Cars

This works best if you, or someone close to you, is good at basic mechanics. Many cars are sold as spares or repairs, due to lack of MOT or another issue. Granted – some of the issues are extreme, and would cost more than the car is worth to fix. But if you can weed out the good from the bad, some of the issues are a super easy fix – meaning you could get your car for a fraction of the cost! Talk about a high ticket bargain!

Also check out written off vehicles, on sites such as this. You can cypher between structurally damaged vs cosmetic – meaning you could get an almost new car for next to nothing!

Wooden Furniture

Almost all genuine wooden furniture is worth grabbing, if you can find it for the right price. So easy to upcycle, modify, fix, and with the option to paint or stain in any colour – you can guarantee it will fit in.
