10 Quirky Summer Day Trips – Part 1
It’s official – the Staycation is literally here to stay… For this year at least! With foreign countries going from green, to amber, to red, people don’t know if they’re coming or going. In fact, I’ve had more fun at traffic lights than predicting which countries are next to get the chop!
With the summer holidays now in full swing, and kids and grown-ups alike already getting bored, it’s time to find more quirky summer day trip ideas that are fun for everyone.
No matter where you are within the UK, hopefully you will be able to find at least a few of the following ideas in your local vicinity.
If you have the capacity to travel further afield, why not use this as a tick list and see how many you can find?
Working Windmills
More often found in the countryside, windmills are one of those quirky buildings that can be great fun to visit. Working windmills are full of history, and can be an exciting way to learn about our past.
You can also buy fresh bread, grab some lunch, have a pint or even get hitched if you know the right places to look!
Day Boat Hire
Fancy going for a drive, but don’t want to put up with the traffic? Why not hire a day boat and get around the waterways?
Pack a picnic, grab your life jacket and get your sailors hat on! Many places offer day hire boat hire, giving you the chance to explore your local surroundings in a whole new light. Don’t forget to check out your route before you set off; there are many pubs that sit along rivers, so you may even be able to squeeze a cheeky drink (or two) in too!
Lighthouse
A great excuse to visit the coast – not that you need one! Beaches may be crowded, so if you’re wanting to get out, but still avoid too many people why not pack some lunch and go and explore a lighthouse?
Enjoy a relaxing walk along the coast, climb the steps of the lighthouse and check out the views.
Garden Centres
Garden centres are always a great day out. No matter what you are looking for, you can almost guarantee to find it in your local garden centre. From breakfast to garden gnomes, bonsai trees to benches – no matter what you are looking for, chances are you will find it here.
Shopping Centres
If air-con and retail therapy is your thing, then shopping centres are where you need to be. Whether you’re after the cinema, food, bowling, or just a new wardrobe; well, you certainly won’t get bored your local shopping centre. There is always plenty to keep you entertained; just keep your wallet handy as you may end up buying items you didn’t know you needed.
