10 Quirky Summer Day Trips – Part 2
How I love the predictability of the unpredictable British weather. Just because its summer, it doesn’t mean sun!
Hopefully, you and the rest of your clan, will be used to the sun/ rain/ storms/ wind/ sun combo that we know and love (!) all too well, and have fitting outfits to suit all occasions.
Wellies and a strappy top are all the rage at festivals!
To cater for all occasions, we have a few more cheap and cheerful day trip ideas, that again, can cost as little or as much as you’d like.
Spending the summer keeping you/ your spouse/ loved ones/ kiddies/ dogs/ next door neighbours’ goldfish busy can be a tall order. But we aren’t one to shy away from a challenge. Even though the six weeks summer holidays may seem like six years, we are determined to find you somewhere to go.
No matter what you enjoy most, from TV (outdoor cinema) to painting (National Parks) to Swedish Meatballs (Ikea!), hopefully these will get you raring to go and wanting to escape the same four walls, if only for a few hours!
Ikea
Shopping centres may have been covered, but a trip to Ikea is a whole different ball game. Fancy a game of hide and seek? Ikea has you covered. Fancy a new set of cutlery, bedding and a vase for less than it costs for a family at McDonalds? Ikea has you covered. Fancy some meatballs for lunch? Guess what – Ikea has you covered. No matter what kind of day out you’re looking for, chances are Ikea will have you covered.
Village Fetes
These are especially good if you live in or near a village, or just like to get out and explore! Quite often full of fun and laughter, you can often find something for everyone. Stalls, games, rides and food, there will be plenty to keep you entertained for a while!
Markets
Usually in a mainstream town, or ‘market town’ (shocking, I know!). Markets are a great place to get your wares, and usually a lot cheaper too! From clothes to electrical items, locally sourced food to rugs, you can find it all. You can often tell the good traders from the bad – everyone will know the good ones, and flock to them! From the more famous indoor markets such as the ones in Camden, to the lesser known but still extremely loved like Sandringham Craft Fair (play spot the Royal whilst you’re there!), find your favourite and get shopping – its great to support local sellers!
National Parks
Dotted all over the UK, national parks are our hidden treasure. A great place for getting your exercise in, in a serene location, to get the blood pumping. Whether walking, running, or cycling. Exercise not really your style? You can try birdwatching, stargazing, practise your photography style or even hone your painting skills.
Outdoor Cinema/ Concert
Even before Covid, outdoor cinemas were becoming extremely popular, whether they were picnic style or drive-thru. Since Covid and social distancing, these types of events have only become more common place. Open air concerts are also proving to be all the rage, with several artists taking to the open stage!
