Best TV Streaming Services

With many of us stuck at home watching TV, and some great deals about, now is the perfect time to shop about for new TV streaming services. The market has widened, being once dominated by Sky, BT or Virgin – you now have a vast selection of streaming services available – so why not see if you’re getting the best services for you?

Netflix

Arguably the most popular, Netflix has a huge amount of hit films, series and documentaries, as well as their own original films and series. With brand new shows and films, as well as old time classics, from the UK and across the pond, there isn’t much you can’t find on Netflix. With three different price plans, an app which is available on almost any device, and the option to download to watch offline, this is suitable for everyone in the family at any time. However, what you can watch is dependant on your location, and it can take a while for new content to be available.

Amazon Prime TV

Similar to Netflix, Amazon Prime TV again has a massive list of things to watch, although a slightly smaller selection than Netflix. It too has original content, in films and series, and again like Netflix have managed to get many A list actors on board to help. You are able to download to watch offline later, and an app, but the cost is either £79 per year, or £7.99 per month. The content is also harder to find, as the set up is slightly less user friendly than Netflix and less categories to choose from.

Now TV

A derivative from Sky TV, but considerably cheaper, you can buy your different bundles in the form of a ‘pass’. The passes consist of Entertainment, Sky Cinema, Kids, Sky Sports, and hayu – meaning you can pick and choose your favourite elements of Sky TV, without being tied into a lengthy contract, as you can cancel your passes at any time. You can also get Now TV Boost, to watch your programmes in 1080p HD, Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound and 3 streams at the same time, and like the others download and watch later.

Britbox

Self-described as a way to ‘Stream the biggest box of British boxsets’, this is essentially a glorified version of BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4 and My5, minus ads, and with a contract you can cancel any time. Their USP is the fact that their shows are all archived from all channels, so no longer available on their free retrospective players. Shows include the entire Dr Who series, Only Fools and Horses, and classic movies such as the Carry On films. Although relatively new still to the UK, they have build up an impressive following in the US and Canada where it has been available since 2017, and although it may not be ideal for the younger generation, for the slightly more mature audience this could be perfect!

Although it all comes down to personal preference, Netflix does appear to be head and shoulders above the rest, in popularity and variety. Want to see what else you can do on apps? Why not look at how to use apps to manage your money?
