Spring Clean Your Home – And Make Money!
OK OK, so I know its not spring – but hear me out. Schools are going back, life is slooooowly getting back to normal (ish!), and before we know it, Christmas will be here. Which is why it is the perfect time for a spring clean!
Every few months, I have a big clear out. Maybe it’s the cupboard in the spare room, maybe it’s the shed, the loft, or even my wardrobe (more on that in our next article!).
Clean House = Clean Mind
As a non-hoarder, I still find it amazing how much stuff I manage to accumulate, which ultimately ends up in the bin. Cardboard boxes, which I keep because… Well, I have no idea – I assume my cardboard boxes will come in useful! But they barely ever do, apart from Christmas time when I post gifts to family and friends. Wires – I have hundreds of wires – from past products that I no longer even have. Shoes, bags, notepads, cushion covers, microwaves… You get the gist.

The reason I love having a clear out, apart from feeling super productive, making you feel good, and gaining space, is it’s a great way to make a little extra cash!
In my last clear out, which was the workshop, we made a little over £100 in the space of a weekend.
I managed to sell:
- A microwave
- A toaster
- Some car headlights
- An old coffee machine
- A steam mop
- An old exercise bike
- An electric tin opener (which is actually still for sale)
All bits that were clogging up the space in the workshop, packed away in cardboard boxes – I guess they do have their uses! – and all things that work fine, but have been replaced over the years. And instead of selling/ binning/ giving them to charity, they have gone into the workshop, “just in case”.
Just in case what, I have no idea, but that was just the bits in the front of the workshop. I also know there are car speakers, some weights, an amp, lamps, more gym equipment, and god only knows what else gathering dust in there. And that’s without going through the rest of the house!
Where Should I Sell My Stuff?
This is the beauty of it – you can literally sell it anywhere. Have a garden sale. Go to a car boot. Check out our article about how and where to sell your stuff online – we’ve got you covered.
Why Should I?!
Having a spring clean regularly is a great way to clear your house of old things you just don’t need, and also a great excuse to buy new bits! I live by the 6 month rule. If it is something I’m unsure whether to get rid of, it lives in the loft or workshop for 6 months. If I haven’t used or needed it within that time, then chances are I don’t need it. I make space for newer things, earn a little extra money to buy them with, and have a clean house – which makes me feel positive!
